The Yankees placed Chad Gaudin on waivers today, and I'm not sure that was the right course of action.
After this move, it looks like the bullpen will shape up as follows:
Mariano Rivera
Joba Chamberlain/Phil Hughes
Alfredo Aceves
David Robertson
Damaso Marte
Chan Ho Park
Sergio Mitre
Chamberlain, Hughes, Aceves, and Robertson all have options remaining—and they could be sent down with no repercussions to start the season. The Yankees will probably place Boone Logan on waivers soon, too.
It's arguable whether Mitre or Gaudin is better suited for the 'pen—personally, I think Gaudin is. Either way, the bullpen shapes up ...
With the introduction of the term “Floating Alignment,” Major League Baseball has a new buzz word to keep fans and critics alike speculating about the progression of America’s Pastime.
These proposed changes include giving certain small-market or underachieving teams the opportunity to move to divisions where they could become more competitive, or, at the very least, have a chance to play the Yankees and the Red Sox multiple times a year. Such moves would be in an effort to generate a higher revenue strain for teams like the Royals and ...
I know the 2010 season hasn't even begun yet, but I'm going on record and making a bold prediction for the Yankees' near future.
That's right, I'm saying it now—Carl Crawford will be wearing pinstripes come 2011 and beyond.
Now, how can I be so sure? Why wouldn't Crawford go back to Tampa and play with the Rays for the rest of his career? It's a good question, considering Tampa has a decent team with lots of young talent and can contend at any time.
The only problem is that Crawford is such ...
One player appears to have been eliminated from the fifth starter battle for the New York Yankees.
The team placed Chad Gaudin on waivers today.
Gaudin was acquired by the Yankees via trade last season and made 11 appearances for them. He went 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in those 11 games, which included six starts.
That performance was enough for the Yankees to sign him to a one-year, $2.95 million deal this offseason and give him a chance to win the fifth spot in the starting rotation.
The right-hander struggled this spring, ...
When Joe Girardi opened camp last month, he made it clear that the fifth-starter job would be a wide-open competition.
And so it was that Phil Hughes, a 23-year-old once deemed too promising to be dealt for Johan Santana and Joba Chamberlain, a 24-year-old once touted as the next Josh Beckett, ended up in a dogfight with the very ordinary likes of Sergio Mitre, Chad Gaudin, and Alfredo Aceves.
Or at least that's how the Yankees presented it.
The reality of the situation is that the fix was in from the start. The ...
Everyone has likely participated in the wonderful world of fantasy baseball at least one time during his or her lifetime.
Whether home base was at CBS, FOX, Yahoo, ESPN, or Sandbox, the goal was the same: compile the best team, destroy your friends, and remind them of it until next season.
In 2010, CBS is offering something different for all Bleacher Report lovers and participants. Normally costing a fantasy commissioner to dole out $180 to compete, CBSSports.com Fantasy Baseball Commissioner—the web’s most powerful league—will be offered at 50 percent off to our ...
In case you missed it, the biggest news of the morning is the Yankees decision to waive Chad Gaudin, thus eliminating him from the fifth starter competition and probably from the team altogether.
Here are some other news items of note:
Jon Heyman wrote a column on Carl Crawford and he had a quote that the Yankees “absolutely love Crawford” and we should expect him to be the team’s no. 1 target next offseason. He also said that the Rays had been trying to lock Crawford up all offseason, but failed ...
According to Ed Price of Fan House, the Yankees have placed right handed pitcher Chad Gaudin on waivers. There are four scenarios that can happen now and only one involves him pitching with the Yankees in 2010.
What happens now is that the rest of the league can claim Gaudin off of waivers. If a team claims him, the Yankees can let him go to that team or try to work out a trade. If nobody claims him, they can choose to either send him to the minors and pay his ...
The regular season is just a few weeks away and the Yankees roster is beginning to take shape. A few of the position battles are starting to clear up as players are released and sent to the minors. The Yankees lost to the Phillies today as Phil Hughes gave up a game-ending home run in the bottom of the ninth. The home run was one of three given up by Hughes today. Despite the long balls, Hughes pitched very well, as he made batters ...
Thought to be the possible fourth outfielder on the Yankee bench to start the season, Rule 5 draft pick Jamie Hoffmann struggled in Spring Training, to say the least.
Hoffmann was returned to the Dodgers today, after being taken as the first overall pick in the Rule 5 Draft in December. Hoffmann hit just .130 (3-22) as a Yankee this spring. The Yankees traded RP Brian Bruney and $25,000 to the Nationals for the first pick in the draft.
The four remaining outfielders at Yankee camp are the front-runner, Marcus Thames ...
