The Yankees have won their first five series, including last week's triumph over the Angels, but now the Bombers head out to Anaheim for a rematch in a stadium where New York has not had a great deal of success over the past 15 years.
Then again, this doesn't appear to be the same Halos team the Yanks have battled during the past decade-and-a-half. Los Angeles has been mediocre out of the gate, posting an 8-9 record with less-than-stellar statistics to back it up.
The Angels rank eighth in the American League in ...
Sliding Into Home deserves the credit for this one. Here is a video of the incident that took place between Alex Rodriguez and Dallas Braden that ended in Braden erupting at A-Rod because he walked across the back of the mound on his way back to first base on a foul ball.
Another funny thing about this incident is Mike Axisa’s commentary of it over at River Ave Blues . Here is what Axisa said:
“To be quite frank, this whole mound issue is just a bit of nonsense. You’re ...
Look for New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira to break out his slump (I won't ever stop saying that until he does).
If the last series (won by the Yankees, 2-1, April 13-15) with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is any indication of how the Yankees' latest three-game series this weekend with the Halos will go, then Yankee fans have little to be worried about.
Tonight's marquee match-up between AJ Burnett and Ervin Santana , who is coming off a complete game against the Blue Jays, will not ...
Yesterday was indeed a weird day for the Yankees. First there was Alex Rodriguez ’s run-in with Oakland pitcher Dallas Braden after he stepped on the mound returning to first after a foul ball, then there was a triple play, and all of this happened in just barely over two hours.
Yes, a Yankee game lasted only two hours and seven minutes. Oh, and to make things weirder, the Yankees lost with CC Sabathia on the mound.
In case you missed yesterday’s triple play, here is how it happened. The Athletics had ...
Alex Rodriguez: Age 34, 585 career home runs, .305 career batting average, three-time MVP
Dallas Braden: Age 26, 14-21 career, 4.68 career ERA
Rodriguez off Braden career: 3-for-6, HR
On Thursday, Alex Rodriguez hit a single off Dallas Braden. Robinson Cano followed and fouled off a ball during the at-bat. On the foul ball, Rodriguez went from first to third and was forced to turn around and head back to first. Apparently (I wasn’t watching live), Alex crossed over back the of the pitcher's mound on his shortcut back to first.
Well, this ...
Most astute baseball fans can list several first-round draft picks that failed to live up to expectations. Their careers could have been derailed by drugs, alcohol or sex addiction. In some cases, their style of play may not have worked at the minor league level.
Other times, they are just mismanaged. One case will always stick out to Yankee fans, however: that of infielder Eric Duncan.
Drafted in the first-round of the 2003 amateur draft, Eric Duncan and the Yankees appeared to be a match made in heaven.
The Yankees needed to bolster ...
The New York Yankees accomplished a rare feature in their 4-2 loss against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday afternoon. Pitcher CC Sabathia was pitching very well, but did not get enough run support to top the A's. Sabathia pitched to Kurt Suzuki. The ball was chopped to Alex Rodriguez, who rushed to third and stepped on the bag to get Daric Barton out. Rodriguez then beamed the ball nicely to Robinson Cano awaiting at second base to force Ryan Sweeney out.
Second Out! From there, Cano quickly threw ...
The Yankees may have lost by 2 runs against the Oakland A's, but this afternoon's game will be remembered for one defensive play.
In the bottom of the 6th inning of today's game, Kurt Suzuki stepped to the plate with Ryan Sweeney on 1st and Daric Barton on 2nd base and nobody out. Suzuki, in the first inning, drilled a 3-R Run home run against CC Sabathia to give Oakland the early lead.
This time, Suzuki hit a hard ground ball right at Alex Rodriguez who fielded it and ran over to tag 3rd base for the ...
I think I’ve probably visited Nick Johnson ’s baseball reference page 100 times already this season. It’s really a thing of beauty. We all knew he would walk a lot, but I’m not sure anyone predicted what he’s done so far.
Going into Thursday’s game, he had a league-leading 18 walks. We’re nearing the end of April and the Houston Astros as a team have the same amount of walks.
As a consequence of all his walks, Johnson’s OBP is still over .400. Yet, you hear every time he comes to the ...
He is not the savior, and he was never a prodigy, but he was a talented right-handed pitcher who had a popping fastball and killer, knee-buckling curve.
The fact that Phil Hughes carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning of last night's game on the road, against an American League West opponent in his second start of the season, seemed familiar to Yankee fans.
That is because Hughes turned the same trick three seasons ago on May 1, 2007, as a 21-year-old in his second ever major league start at Texas. That game ...
