This spring, as the Yankees decided to toss Joba Chamberlain in the bullpen (where he belongs) I kept hearing people being critical of Chamberlain for all the wrong reasons. I heard this phrase over and over again. Over-hyped punk.
Overhyped… That might be true with the “Joba Rules” etc. but can we really blame the kid for that? He’s not the one who decided that he needed to be brought through this disastrous babying system.
He didn’t ...
Game No. 21 on the Fantasy Baseball Insiders Tonight 162-game journey featured a pitcher’s duel between two of the N.L.’s most potent lineups.
Game No. 21 – St. Louis Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Phillies
• Adam Wainwright was his usual dominant self Tuesday night against the Phillies, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks in eight innings. He also struck out six.
The 28-year-old is now 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 36/10 K/BB ratio in 46 innings thus far. With his performance thus far, Wainwright is making ...
A.J. Burnett allowed one run over 7.1 innings, and Francisco Cervelli collected three hits to lead New York over Baltimore, 4-1, Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
New York improved to 9-2 in their last 11 home games against Baltimore. The Orioles lost their second straight after a weekend sweep of Boston. Burnett (4-0) lowered his ERA to 1.99 after limiting Baltimore to one run (unearned) on five hits while walking two and striking out eight. He improved to 11-2 all-time against the Orioles.
In two starts this season against Baltimore, Burnett has ...
Enos “Country” Slaughter replaced Phil Rizzuto on the New York Yankees’ roster on Aug. 25, 1956.
The move was announced on Old Timers’ Day, and effectively ended the career of the second greatest shortstop in Yankees’ history. The Yankees needed help, which they hoped Slaughter could provide, but they were insensitive with respect to the timing of Rizzuto’s release. Phil often talked about the unusual circumstances.
General manager “Lonesome” George Weiss invited Phil to meet with the front office to discuss the World Series roster, assuming the Yankees would win ...
New York is a city that demands winning.
And if their wish isn't granted then they'll let you know about it.
Here in New York we have had to deal with some mythical performances from opponents(Reggie Miller), but luckily we had some tricks up our sleeve as well(Willis Reed).
There's no denying that New York Sports teams have had their fair share of bad luck. For information on that check out my other article on the ten most hated athletes in New York Sports history which can be found here: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/348935-not-so-empire-state-of-mind-the-ten-most-hated-athletes-in-new-york-sports-history

We are here with our second installment of the Clint Eastwood crusade regarding the New York Yankees. If you missed the first installment, click here .
The Yankees sit at 17-8, a full game behind the American League East leading Tampa Bay Rays. While the Yankees are home against Baltimore for the next couple games, then have a short road trip to Boston for three games and four at Detroit, Tampa is embarking on a nine-game West Coast road trip.
While playing Seattle, Oakland and Los Angeles, the Rays will face their ...
There are plenty of players in professional sports who can have a great performance once in a while.
One day the guy is on fire, and the next he’s just an average player.
The ability to be consistently good is one of the qualities which make a professional athlete great at their job.
The athletes described above—those who can have a breakout game once in a while—are merely role players who have a small impact on their respective teams, because they aren’t able to be consistent with their play.
As for the stars, ...
As has been speculated since Curtis Granderson went down with a groin injury, the Yankees appear set to activate outfielder Greg Golson for tonight’s game against the Orioles. Golson has played 21 games in center field for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, hitting just .253/.289/.430. He projects to be a pinch runner and late-inning defensive replacement during his stay with the big league club.
There has been no word on who the Yankees will be sending down, but all indications would point towards relief pitcher Mark Melancon .
[Hat tip to Chad Jennings ...
From 2003 through 2009 Javier Vazquez had thrown at least 200 innings in every season except for one, and that was 198 innings in 2004, with the Yankees.
Vazquez had long been known in the Sabermetric world as a pitcher who always had great peripheral stats like K/9 and BB/9, whiff rate, etc., but never seemed to have the ERA, WHIP, or W-L numbers to back it up.
In 2009 Vazquez seemingly put it all together as he posted an incredible 9.77 K/9, 1.81 BB/9, and 5.41 K/BB rate, all of which led to a sparkling ...
In the simplest of terms, things continue to move along exceedingly well for the New York Yankees.
They won again on Monday, as CC Sabathia cruised through an Orioles lineup that seemed perfectly content with its three-game sweep of the Red Sox.
But if you listened close enough at Yankee Stadium, you could the distressing wail of Father Time trying to throw cold water on New York's 17-8 start.
Jorge Posada missed time last week after being hit by a pitch, and the 38-year-old was forced out of the lineup again yesterday by ...
