Yankees Waste Solid Outing From Vazquez and Lose Game 1

Javier Vazquez took the mound in game one of today's double header against the Detroit Tigers. The veteran righty has been having a terrible season so far. Yankees fans, many of whom were upset the Yankees even brought him back, have been critical of him all year. Today's start was a big one for Vazquez, who was pushed back a few days in order to regroup himself. The extra days seemed to help Vazquez clear his head and fix some mechanical problems in his windup. He did a lot of intense bullpen work ...

Brett Gardner on Pace for a Historic Run

I'm going to start this piece by stating the following: Yes, I'm aware it's only May 12, and therefore, "on pace" articles are always rebutted with "It's only been ___ number of games!" Regardless, part of the fun in sports in projecting things. So that's what I'm here to do. Brett Gardner of the New York Yankees stole his 15th base in the first game of a double-header against the Detroit Tigers. Gardner's only been caught once, and his current projection is for 80 steals in 85 attempts. The raw steal numbers are ...

Greg Golson, Not Juan Miranda, Called Up

After last night’s game was rained out the Yankees are prepared to play a double-header today in Detroit against the Tigers. The first game starts at 1:05 and features a matchup between RHP’s Javier Vazquez (1-3, 9.78) and Rick Porcello (2-3, 7.50). The second game starts at 7:05 and will feature another set of RHP’s Phil Hughes (4-0, 1.69) and Jeremy Bonderman (1-1, 5.74). Yesterday we heard that minor league first baseman Juan Miranda was getting called up in place of the injured Alfredo Aceves (bulging disc in his ...

New York Yankees Scored the Most Runs in a Season, but Were Losers in 1931

The 1931 New York Yankees scored 1,067 runs, which is the most runs ever scored by a major league team in a season. They led the league in batting average (.297), home runs (155), on base average (.380), slugging average (.457), and stolen bases (138). Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig tied for the home run championship with 46 each. Gehrig set the all-time American League record RBI record with 184. There was only one problem. The Philadelphia A's won the pennant by 13 and one-half games over ...

Walter Ibarra was activated from the DL and placed on the Tampa roster. Kevin Mahoney transferred to the Staten Island Yankees . Josh Schmidt was sent back to Trenton . (Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (17-13) vs. Columbus (21-11) was rained out. They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow. ...

New York Yankees To Call Up Juan Miranda from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

UPDATE: Due to the Alfredo Aceves back injury, Miranda was no called up, but instead OF Greg Golson was recalled. Don't know why that occurred, but since Alex Rodriguez is DH in the early game, it is conceivable that Miranda could still be recalled for the night game. Since Aceves leaves teh Yankees with 12 pitchers, Kevin Russo would then be the likely player sent down if Miranda does get recalled for Game 2.  Left-handed first baseman/designated hitter Juan Miranda will be called up to the New York Yankees today, giving the ...

Dallas Braden v. Arod: The End.

Fueled by the media, Dallas Braden’s perfect game, and Braden’s grandmother’s infamous "Stick it A-rod" comments, this spat has grown out of control. It even has Darryl Strawberry coming out of the woodwork to chime in on the affair. Anytime someone asks Strawberry for a comment, you know the situation has gotten out of control. Not surprisingly, another stellar jerk, Curt Schilling chimed in on "The Herd" about the incident. I think I speak for everyone involved when I say GIVE ME A BREAK! Report on something else. This is one ...

Javier Vazquez Trade Rumors

According to Frank Russo of NY Baseball Digest , the Yankees have been getting phone calls from a few National League teams including the Atlanta Braves on the availability of struggling pitcher Javier Vazquez . On Monday afternoon I spoke with my main Yankees source down in Tampa, who informed me that the team has already received inquiries from several NL teams in regards to the availability of Javy Vazquez. Although we were not giving the names of any specific teams, rumor has it that Atlanta ...

Read: A-Rod No Lock for Bonds’ Record

When the Yankees signed Alex Rodriguez to an obscene 10-year, $275 million contract, they did so with the  idea that he would not only help them win ball games, but also pack some seats. It’s part of the reason why he could qualify for up to $30 million in bonuses based on how many historic home runs he hits. But since hip surgery and a steroid admission, is A-Rod the same lock to hit 763 home runs as he once was? Darren Everson of the Wall Street Journal wondered the same ...
