The 10 Best Red Sox-Yankees Moments of the Decade

With the Red Sox and Yankees meeting again this week, here’s my rundown of the best moments of the past decade in baseball’s greatest rivalry. There are any number of moments I could have picked. Just missing out were Jacoby Ellsbury's steal of home, the 33 consecutive scoreless innings by Yankee pitching and Mark Teixeira signing with New York over Boston. Note that, although I’m a Sox fan, I am aiming to be impartial, as evidenced by number 10 on the list.Begin Slideshow

Rough Night for Pitchers: Thames Gets The Pie, Johnson Has Surgery

It was a rough night to be a pitcher in the Bronx last night. Nine pitchers in total were used in the contest between the Yankees and Red Sox. Of the nine, five gave up runs in the 11-9 Yankees win. The starters were not good. Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka   had a bad first inning in which the Yankees scored five runs. The righty lasted 4.2 innings, giving up nine hits. Three of those nine were doubles. The Yankees scored seven runs off Matsuzaka before he was taken out with ...

Yankees-Red Sox: Marcus Thames’ Walk-Off Homer Devastates Boston,11-9

In 2009, the Yankees won a total of 15 games in walk-off hit fashion. In the 2010 season, the Yankees got their first of the season in a much needed way against their oldest rival. Monday night pitted the Yankees and Red Sox in the first of two games at Yankee Stadium. Early on, the Yankees got a 5-0 lead in the first inning off Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka, who just looked awful against the Yankees. Yankees starter Phil Hughes wasn't as sharp as he has been all season, entering Monday's game 5-0. Hughes allowed ...

Marcus Thames Becomes a Yankee: 14 Years in the Making

In the 30th round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft, the New York Yankees selected Marcus Thames from Louisville, Mississippi. Six years after that, in June of 2002, Thames homered on the first pitch he ever saw.  Who threw it?  Just this guy named Randy Johnson. No big deal, right? Thames was traded to the Texas Rangers the following season for Rubén Sierra, then filed for free agency at the end of that season.  He signed with the Detroit Tigers in the 2003 offseason.  He would remain there until 2010, when he was signed by the Yankees ...

New York Yankees Promote J.R. Murphy To Low a Charleston

The Yankees second round draft pick last season, J.R. Murphy left extended spring training and played tonight for the Low A Charleston RiverDogs. The RiverDogs were playing in Rome, GA against the Low A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The 6'0", 190 lb Murphy was the designated hitter and ended up 1-3, with a double, RBI and struck out twice. While drafted as a catcher, and currently part of the long pecking order of highly-rated Yankees catching prospects, I feel Murphy's greatest value to the team is likely as a rightfielder. Why? Well, despite ...

Yankees Bore This Baseball Fan

Unless there is a catastrophe, the Yankees are going to buy another World Series this season. There's no denying it. That team is stacked with great hitting and great pitching. Their young players mesh with the veterans when it comes to creating a cohesive unit. There's no team in baseball that can challenge them. People can talk about the Giants with their starting five, but the Yankees have a good starting rotation of their own. This baseball observer watched the Yankees over the weekend. The Yankees played great in all of three games, ...

Red Sox-Yankees: Thames Walks-Off Red Sox After Yankees Blow Early Lead

Trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the ninth, Alex Rodriguez tied the game with a two-run home run off Jonathan Papelbon. Three batters later, Marcus Thames’ two-out, two-run walk off homer lifted New York to an 11-9 win over Boston Monday night at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won despite blowing an early 5-0 lead. The Red Sox lost their eighth consecutive game at Yankee Stadium. Brett Gardner led off the bottom of the ninth with a double that eluded Darnell McDonald’s diving attempt in left field. It was Gardner’s fourth hit ...

10 Reasons Why The Yankees Are America’s Most Hated Team

"Hating the New York Yankees is as American as apple pie, unwed mothers, and cheating on your income tax." —Chicago newspaper columnist Mike Royko Face it. If you aren't a Yankees fan, then there will always be a sense, some sort of cognizance of hate towards them. Whether you are an extremist, hoping at all costs that the Yanks lose, or simply not a fan of them, everybody has had the feeling that they are sick of the Yankees. For me, I have never hated  the Bombers. But, being a baseball ...
