New York Yankees Injury Updates: Vazquez, Thames, and Aceves

The Yankees got a much needed off-day yesterday that, more than everything else, gave some of their walking wounded a chance to heal. We already heard this morning that Curtis Granderson is on track to come back this Friday. Now we have a couple more updates: Javier Vazquez Vazquez was in the middle of a dominant outing last time against the Mets until he injured his hand while bunting in the top of the seventh. Vazquez was confident that he would make his next start. He threw a ...

Lumber Slumber: Will the New York Yankees Bats Wake Up Anytime Soon?

In the last two weeks it seems as though the New York Yankees' bats have gone to sleep.  After starting the season on a tear and winning series after series the Yankees have recently found themselves in a late May slump. Mark Teixeira, who is notorious for have a slow start to his season, has gone back into a slump.  After raising his average from .136 in the end of April to .224 against Boston it has since dropped to .209 and doesn’t seem to be coming back up ...

There have been plenty of great moments in Yankees history. If you think otherwise, http://bleacherreport.com/articles/394107-giddy-up-the-21-greatest-moments-in-new-york-yankees-history, check that out, and then get back to me. World Series over. 2) A-Rod ...

Curtis Granderson Returns from Disabled List Friday

Brian Cashman spoke with reporters yesterday and announced that the Yankees plan to activate center fielder Curtis Granderson from the disabled list come this Friday. This is big news for the Yankees who have been inconsistent in the outfield, both offensively and defensively, since he went down. Granderson last played on May 1st, and Marcus Thames has gotten most of the playing time in his absence. During that time he has hit .250 with a .396 OBP, and an un-Thames like .361SLG. Thames also won a game with a walk-off homer ...

Ken Griffey Third in All Star DH Voting

Once again, the All Star voting is proving to be a popularity contest with almost no correlation to how well a player is performing on the field. A case in point is Ken Griffey Jr., who is third in voting for designated hitter. Although he is the only DH who hasn’t hit a home run and is 19th among 22 DHs with seven RBI, his .252 OBP is 21st ahead of only Randy Ruiz, who signed with a Japanese team last week. Griffey’s .186 batting average is 20th on the team and ...

New York Yankees Announcer Michael Kay Lacks Maturity at His Job

Bob Raissman and Phil Mushnick write about sports media for the New York Daily News and the New York Post respectively. When their papers publish their columns, it's a must-read. Those two are not afraid to savage any media personality. They point out their stupidity on the airwaves.  Michael Kay is a fixture on those columns. No one can go through a week without reading a criticism of Kay in the paper. Kay deserves it. He brings this all on himself. The Yankees announcer is terrible at what he does. It's amazing he has ...

Why The Subway Series Doesn’t Mean Anything Anymore

When inter-league play began in 1997, New York City was ready to play ball. The city was about to be split up between two teams that were eager to gain bragging rights and claim the city to be theirs. The Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets used to be one of the most exciting rivalries in baseball. There was the Roger Clemens-Mike Piazza incident. Then Jose Reyes and David Wright came into the picture, being labeled instantly as one of the best short stop, third basemen combinations ...

New York Yankees-Minnesota Twins Series: New York Looks to Get Pitching Back

After a disappointing 2-5 stretch against three of their biggest rivals, the Yankees finally got an off day before making their first trip to the new Target Field for another difficult series against the American League Central leading Twins. New York had won 12 straight against Minnesota, including a three-game sweep in last year's AL Division Series, until Jason Kubel hit a grand slam off Mariano Rivera on May 16 to spark a 6-3 Twins victory. Including that game, the Bombers have lost six of eight and while many will blame it ...

Is Baseball in the Midst of a Pitching Revolution?

Saturday night. There I was on my couch, watching the Magic-Celtics game, watching Kendrick Perkins physically abuse Dwight Howard like they were acting out a shower scene in a prison movie, when out of the corner of my eye, I caught a graphic on ESPN’s bottom line... “Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka has no-hitter through six innings” Wait, what? I quickly flipped channels, looking for the game, convinced that my eyes had mistaken me. It just couldn’t be right. Daisuke Matsuzaka, the most hated ...
