On Wednesday afternoon, Ken Griffey Jr. took the next step in his baseball career, and that was to end it.
The Mariners outfielder and designated hitter was not having his best season and decided it was time to call it quits. Next stop for Griffey…Cooperstown.
How can a player not make it when he is listed as No. 6 overall on the all-time home run list and made the All-Star team 13 times in 22 years? Griffey is beyond qualified for a spot in baseball eternity.
Sure, Tom Seaver earned his spot with ...
After a rough May for the Yankees' pitching staff, New York is using subpar competition to right itself at the beginning of June.
CC Sabathia's three-run, seven-inning victory over the Orioles on Thursday afternoon completed a 5-0 run for Yanks starters during the most recent turn through the rotation.
A.J. Burnett got things started against the Indians on Sunday, when he allowed just one earned run on five hits over eight innings, and Andy Pettitte followed with a seven-inning, one-run performance versus Cleveland.
In the Baltimore opener, Javier Vazquez repeated Pettitte's effort, as did Phil ...
Home sweet home—the Yankees have completed their sweep of the hapless Orioles and went 6-1 over this recent home stand, getting them right back on track in the AL East.
Now just two games back of division-leading Tampa, who had the day off, the Yankees are starting to get hot. The strength of schedule has been a great help to the Yanks' recent success.
The offense and dominant pitching from early in the year has returned. Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes, and A.J. Burnett all seem to be dialed in ...
In 1993 I was nine years old. I already loved watching baseball but really hadn’t settled on one team.
My dad watched the Yankees, and so did I, but other members of my family watched the Mets, so I watched a fair amount of them too.
The problem with both of those teams, though, was that Don Mattingly already had started looking like I missed his best years, and Darryl Strawberry had already been out of town for a number of years.
At that point somebody else started to draw my interest away ...
Last night Tiger’s pitcher Armando Galarraga held a perfect game with one out to go in the ninth inning. He educed a ground ball that was thrown by Tiger’s first baseman Miguel Cabrera to Galarraga, covering at first base in time to get the out. Unfortunately, Umpire Jim Joyce blew the call.
If you haven’t seen the video, here it is:

When I first saw that, my immediate reaction wasn’t anger toward the umpire, although I can’t blame those who ...
Scheduled to take place on June 7, 2010, the countdown for the 2010 MLB draft is underway.
Teams are doing their last minute scouting and research hoping to find the next "diamond" in the rough.
For some, dreams are going to come true, knowing they will have the oppurtunity to play in the majors. While others will have to continue to work on improving their game before they get the chance to become a major leaguer.
It's my pleasure to welcome you to Round 1 of my 2010 MLB mock draft.

Good news for fantasy owners like me, who were suffering at the catcher position while they had Jorge Posada on the DL. The New York Yankees activated the 38-year-old catcher prior to last night’s tilt against the Baltimore Orioles.
Posada DH’d last night, which might be a good thing for his fantasy owners. Francisco Cervelli is clearly a better defensive catcher than Posada at this point in his career. Posada at DH the majority of the time will preserve his bat and health for the rest of the season.
Posada is hitting ...
Yesterday, I wrote about how the New York Yankees should send IF/OF Kevin Russo down to the minors when catcher Jorge Posada was ready to be activated off the disabled list.
However, that’s not what happened. Instead, the Yankees demoted 1B/DH Juan Miranda on Wednesday, and the reason is because Posada is more of a designated hitter than ever before.
See, I knew Posada was going to come back as a DH and not a catcher, but I thought that was only going to be through the weekend. Instead, this sounds ...
Since the Jeet man is chasing Gehrig's sacred numbers I thought I would compare the two...something Jeter himself would never admit doing.
They both had the basic same legnth careers, G-man 16 years and Jeet-man 15. Gehrig had three seasons of 15 or fewer games, two in the beginning and one at the end. Jeter had one season where he played 15 games...his first. Jeter will play for at least two more years.
Lou Gehrig: 2,164 games/8,001 AB/ 1888 runs/2,721 hits/ 534 doubles/163 triples/493 HR/1,995 RBI/1,508 walks/790 strikeouts/.340 AVG./.447 OBP

New York baseball teams opened up their new palaces last year, Citi Field and the new Yankee Stadium.
After watching games at both stadiums, let's just say both stadiums left a lot to be desired.
They had zero charm.
There was nothing interesting about either ballpark.
This author visited Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Sitting in the terrace seats, it was hard to see anything on the field.
It was hard to figure out if David Huff was hit or not. It took four minutes to figure out it happened thanks to the jumbotron ...
