Rumors have spread about the White Sox looking to sell , and it is apparent that the White Sox will not compete this year.
The Yankees don’t have any glaring needs. They could use a DH-type to replace Nick Johnson , especially if it turns out Johnson will miss the season. They could also perhaps use some bullpen help or some outfield depth. Neither is pressing, however.
So, who do the White Sox have that the Yankees could want? Well, just a glance at the 2010 White Sox team page on Baseball-Reference.com ...
The Yankees made a controversial choice in the first round of the amateur draft last night when they drafted shortstop Chris “Cito” Culver at 32nd overall.
The reason why the pick was controversial is because he was not recognized as the best player available left on the draft board. He was also not expected to be a first round draft pick. In fact, Baseball America didn’t even have him listed in their top 100 prospects.
He is however a very athletic player, a switch hitter, with potential to be an everyday shortstop ...
There have many reports which have Kansas City Royals outfielder David DeJesus being available in trade. And why not? The Royals stink and they can do just as badly without DeJesus as they can with him*.
*That reminds me of a story in which Ralph Kiner, then a power hitting right-handed hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates, going into Branch Rickey's (then GM of the Pirates) office before the 1953 season to talk contract. Kiner had just led the National League again in home runs (he would lead the NL in home ...
The board could not have fallen more perfectly for the New York Yankees Monday night.
Picking 32nd overall, they had several potential top-10 talents available for selection, including Middle Tennessee State outfielder Bryce Brentz, and LSU right hander Anthony Ranaudo.
Most years, Brian Cashman would scoop up the top available talent, pay him above-slot money, and that would be that.
But this was not most years.
The Yankees did not go above slot with their first round pick. Instead, they selected a two-way player out of Irondequoin High School in Rochestar, Cito Culver. Brentz ...
The current talent in Major League Baseball rivals that of any era. Stars are both being born and resting, such as Ken Griffey, Jr.
Of the Hall of Fame hopefuls, here are 11 players whose names you can expect to see enshrined in Cooperstown, NY—the ultimate accomplishment in baseball.Begin Slideshow
With the 32nd pick in the first round, the Yankees took Cito Culver in this year's MLB Draft.
He's a 6'1'', 167-pound switch hitting shortstop from Irondequoit HS in Rochester, N.Y.
He also pitched in high school, but scouts don't see it in his future. John Manuel of Baseball America had this to say about the pick:
Once again, this wasn't a consensus first-rounder. Need more proof? Cito Culver ranked No. 168 on our board, but Culver had athleticism, plus tools to play shortstop and good infield actions, ...
Here's an updated look at the American League All-Star voting from MLB.com . As you can see, Justin Morneau has taken the lead at first from Mark Teixeira, and rightly so. The rest seems pretty much the same.

Robinson Cano has flourished this season batting fifth, behind Alex Rodriguez, in the lineup. Last year Cano struggled mightily when the Yankees first moved him to the number five hole. He was known to choke under pressure when there were runners in scoring position. This year is a completely different story. Cano is not only the best hitter on the Yankees this year, most can argue that he is the best in all of baseball. It is a little early to talk about MVP, but how ...
All day long, I'll be updating the 2010 MLB draft via running article/blog.
Hopefully, they'll be some good news coming out later today clarifying what's going to go down after the Nationals pop Bryce Harper at number one.
And come 7 p.m., I'll be there with instant analysis of each of the picks from the first-round.
Also, I'm no expert, but if you have any questions, let 'em fly!
10:40 p.m. The compensation round went really quick, and here's how things went down:
33) Astros- Michael Kvasnicka- catcher from Minnesota was a late-riser, who almost ...
The amateur draft starts today, and the Yankees get their first shot at 32nd overall, last in the first round. They don’t get any supplemental picks ,and will pick again at the end of the 2nd and 3rd rounds, 82nd and 112th overall.
In honor of the draft, I thought it would be a good idea to look at the Yankees roster and see where each player was selected.
1st Round
Alex Rodriguez (1st overall), Mark Teixeira (5th), Derek Jeter (6th), Nick Swisher (16th), CC Sabathia (20th), Greg Golson (21st), Phil Hughes (23rd), ...
