Former Top Prospect Dellin Betances Returns

Once highly touted pitching prospect right-handed Dellin Betances pitched in his first game last night since he had elbow surgery nearly a year ago. He started for the Single-A Tampa Yankees. His line: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO, 1.50 ERA. Coming off of surgery, the walks are the most impressive thing, but he did unleash one wild pitch. Betances had a ligament reinforcement surgery just two weeks short of a year ago. That surgery was done after he had dealt with numerous minor elbow injuries ...

2010 MLB Draft Results: Yankees Draft Pick Profiles, Rounds 1-8

If you haven’t noticed yet I have been running posts on each of the players the Yankees drafted this week. There are 50 of them and I’m going to try to do as many as I can. I might start doing them out of order at some point too. So far we have the first eight draft picks up and I have at least four more on deck for today. The common thing about these players are that they are young. The Yankees drafted 20 high schoolers in total which is ...

Yankees vs. Orioles: Arrieta Impressive in Major League Debut

Baltimore rookie pitcher Jake Arrieta had the difficult task of facing the New York Yankees in his major league debut. However, Arrieta held the powerful Yankees offense in check and picked up his first big league win in the Orioles' 4-3 win Thursday night at Camden Yards. Baltimore ended a 10-game losing streak to New York and avoided being swept by the Yankees for the third time this season. New York finished their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record. Arrieta (1-0), who posted a 1.85 ERA in 12 appearances at Triple-A Norfolk, ...

New York Yankees: Prospect Dellin Betances Makes 2010 Debut

It seems like Dellin Betances has been in the New York Yankee's system forever. And for Betances, who was considered a top minor league pitcher, it has been. He is considered one of the true No. 1 type pitchers in the Yankee system. Drafted in the 8th round of the 2006 draft, Betances was stolen by the Yankees from a full ride to Vanderbilt University with a $1 million signing bonus. Betances was part of that great Yankee pitching draft which procured Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, Mark Melancon and David Robertson (who have made the ...

Fantasy Baseball Scouting Report: Brett Gardner

There certainly were conflicting theories about Brett Gardner as we headed into 2010.  Some people thought he could mature into an everyday player for the Yankees, including being a tremendous source of stolen bases.  Others thought that he would be exposed by major league pitching with regular playing time.  Thus far, those who believed in the former statement certainly are reaping the benefits of the following line: 194 At Bats .271 Batting Average (61 Hits) 3 Home Runs 19 RBI 42 Runs 20 Stolen Bases .395 On Base Percentage .423 Slugging ...

If Cliff Lee Comes To the New York Yankees, Who Goes?

Well, the Yankees are looking to make a big splash. Again. With rumors surrounding the Yankees and Cliff Lee in a possible trade, you cannot help but wonder two things: 1. Who do the Yankees trade away? 2. Who is out of the starting rotation? First, you need to remember that this might not necessarily happen through a trade. Lee is in his final contract year and is preparing to hit the winter slopes of free agency. Let's assume, for now, that he is traded to the Yankees. You'll hear many rumors along the ...

Cito Culver Is New York Yankees’ 2010 First Round Pick

With their first round pick, 32nd overall, in the 2010 amateur draft the Yankees selected 17-year-old Rochester, NY native Christopher “Cito” Culver. Culver is a switch-hitting shortstop with four strong tools who the Yankees see as a possible replacement for Derek Jeter. Here is what Baseball America had to say about him: Hidden away in upstate New York—hardly a baseball hotbed—Culver sticks out like a sore thumb. He is the rare Northeast prep product with a legitimate chance to play shortstop in the major leagues. Culver’s best tool is his ...

Brett Gardner Will Undergo MRI for Thumb: Will Yankees Have to Deal for OF Help?

Last season Brett Gardner broke his thumb while playing in the outfield, and the injury caused him to spend over a month on the DL. This season, that was mostly an afterthought until the other day, when the Yankees pulled Gardner from the lineup. After the game manager Joe Girardi informed reporters of the reason, and Gardner told them that the same thumb that he broke last season was often sore, but this was the only time it was bad enough to come out of a game. So the Yankees sent Gardner in ...

A Face Not Even Mom Could Love: Sports 15 Ugliest Athletes

How does this guy get so much tail? His head looks like it was built with Lego blocks. However, he probably nailed the photographer after this photo shoot. It's the Jeter way. Which leads me to the following list. I ranked these putrid mugs in descending order from least of the gross to the King of the gross. The Mt. Everest of Ugly, if you will. Without further ado.
