Major League Baseball: 1975 – The Worst Draft Ever

Almost certainly the worst job Major League Baseball teams ever did of handicapping baseball talent happened in the 1975 Draft. It was a bad, bad draft on many levels. The first player selected was my all-time biggest draft bust: Danny Goodwin. Adding to the fact that this was the second time Goodwin was the first player selected in the draft, he was also given what was then almost certainly a record bonus for a drafted player of $125,000. The last of the great bonus babies, Rich Reichart, received $200,000 from the then ...

Time For Yankees’ Eiland Vacation To End, One Way Or Another!

By Larry Barnes | Yankees ‘n More and The New York Yankees Daily-PressIt is past time for the New York Yankees to have a fulltime pitching coach on staff – a benefit the Yankees haven’t enjoyed for a week and counting. That’s because Dave Eiland has some unnamed personal issue that has kept him away from the team.Call it cold-hearted if you must, but the world doesn’t stop because Eiland can’t show up to work and doing his job. The Yankees have to keep playing, and many of their starting pitchers ...

Addressing The Cliff-Lee-To-The-New York-Yankees Rumors

It's the beginning of June and while the Yankees are in the midst of a pennant race with the Rays, that hasn't been the buzz of the area lately. Nope. The buzz belongs to the possible trade destinations of the Seattle Mariners' left handed pitcher, Cliff Lee. Before the start of the season, I honestly thought Seattle would be a major contender in the division and they would hold onto Lee for the 2010 season. Hell, I even picked them to win the A.L. West this season, especially when they got Lee ...

Alex Rodriguez: Good New After VIsit to the Doctor

After Alex Rodriguez left the game yesterday with a tight groin muscle, everyone feared the worse because it was a muscle near the same area where he had hip surgery. So, A-Rod went back to see Dr. Ahmad, the doctor that operated on his hip today, and he got good news : tendinitis in his hip flexor, not in the area he had surgery. Tendinitis is not the best news, but it is a lot better than if this happened in the same area of the surgery which could have meant more ...

3-3 Road Trip Leaves Yankees Looking for Answers

The Yankees can't wait to get back to the Stadium tonight, where they are 19-7 on the season. The road however has been a very different story so far, with the Yanks being only 18-16 away from the big ballpark in the Bronx. Their most recent road trip made three game stops in Toronto and Baltimore with New York going 3-3 along the way. But it really should have been a 5-1 road trip if you ask me. The first game in Toronto was all Blue Jays, but the second game was much more ...

Yankees-Astros Series Preview: New York Completes Easy Stretch

The Yankees have gone 9-4 since opening a stretch of 16 games against mostly sub-.500 teams on May 28. Now, they have come to the end of Easy Street with three contests versus the Astros. With tougher Interleague matchups coming up against the Phillies, Mets and Dodgers this month, New York will look to capitalize on its final easy series before it travels to Arizona from June 21-23. But the Bombers may have to do it without the services of Alex Rodriguez, who suffered a groin injury in the first inning versus ...

A-Rod Will See Doctor After Leaving Game Early

Alex Rodriguez didn’t even get an at-bat last night, when the Yankees pinch hit for him in the second inning with Ramiro Pena of all people. After the game, A-Rod said that he left because of his groin, that he injured last week, was stiff. There was no pain, but it was stiff. Here is more from Chad Jennings : “It’s hard to describe,” he said. “I’m going to see Dr. Ahmad tomorrow in the morning in New York and see what he thinks.” Rodriguez said he feels no pain, only ...

New York Yankees: Why Would They Trade for Cliff Lee Now?

There was a recent NY Post report by columnist George King ,which portrayed the New York Yankees as being interested in the services of left-handed pitcher Cliff Lee of the Seattle Mariners. Lee is an outstanding pitcher, one of the top five pitchers in baseball. The report states that Seattle expects the Yankees to attempt to obtain Lee, with information gathered from a person "familiar with Seattle's thought process." The Mariners are preparing for the Yankees to try and trade for Lee, and have scouts in attendance at various ...

The Two Sides of A.J. Burnett

Call him bipolar if you would like. Just in baseball terms, A.J. Burnett can be considered a bit bipolar this season. We have been witnessing two very different sides to the Yankees' pitcher. Burnett seems to be a different pitcher on the road than he is at Yankee Stadium. The numbers are glaring. If we could pitch A.J. during home games only, he would be considered an All-Star and possible Cy Young candidate. Throw in his road game performances, and he is an average pitcher. Keep in mind, Burnett has pitched in five ...
