Video of Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez from 1998

I came across this earlier in the day and thought it was worth sharing. It’s Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez back in 1998 when A-Rod was still with Seattle and the two were still close friends. Funny thing about this video, the two are talking about being shortstops, and Jeter said he’s the Yankees shortstop and there can only be one. Oh how true that is. The New York Yankees New Core Four

In my last article I took a look back at the old guard of the New York Yankees: Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte. Then I realized that New York might have a new core four of players: Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano, Phil Hughes, and Joba Chamberlain. All of them won their first World Series together last year and are shaping into quite a nice quartet of players. Everyone in the world of baseball now knows who Cano is and what he is capable of doing with the bat. ...

Brandon Laird: Is New York Yankees ML Slugger the Future or Trade Bait?

Last week, I went to Trenton for my second trip to see the New York Yankees Double-A Minor League team, the Trenton Thunder. It is always a pleasure to go to Trenton, as I get to talk baseball and strategy with the Thunder manager, Tony Franklin, one of the true good guys in the entire pro game. Interestingly, one player who Franklin played with in his second pro season was Yankee minor league pitching coordinator Nardi Contreras. The main reason for going back to Trenton was to see the Thunder's young slugger ...

Yankees Notes: Burnett, Injuries, Vuvuzelas, Culver, and Brackman

AJ Burnett allowed four runs in a rough second inning and the Yankees never recovered, losing 6-3 to 47-year-old Jamie Moyer and the Phillies last night.   Here are some notes:  Burnett has been roughed up lately, with a 9.00 ERA over his last three starts. Alex Rodriguez (groin) was back in the lineup last night as the DH. He scared everyone, though, when he jogged through a ninth inning double. Rodriguez said afterward he was just taking it easy down 6-2. Jorge Posada caught his second game since breaking his foot. Once again, Posada said it ...

Ghosts of Yankees Past: Is Bernie Williams a Hall of Famer?

He was a Gold Glove center fielder, a four-time World Champion, a batting title winner, and a fan favorite for the biggest, most important baseball team in the history of baseball. So, let’s ask: Is Bernie Williams a Hall of Famer?   Statistics: Career Ranking Amongst Center Fielders Perhaps the best place to start this analysis would be historical comparison to other center fielders.  In order to figure out whether we should consider Bernie Williams to be one of the best major league baseball players of all time, we need to first know if ...

Brett Gardner Will Have Yankees Pass On Jayson Werth And Carl Crawford For 2011

In my last story, I admitted to being wrong about Javier Vazquez being an utter failure for the Yankees when he has turned himself around in just a short month. I am here to admit being wrong about another Yankee, who has stepped up greatly for the Bombers. In the off season, I had called Brett Gardner nothing more than a fourth outfielder and couldn't be a consistent starter. I did stories trying to get the Yankees to resign Johnny Damon because of the lack of depth they had for the left ...

Which of the Core Four Yankees Will Retire First?

The past 15 years have seen the Yankees add five World Series titles to their trophy case, and none of them would have been possible without the contributions of four special players. Those players are Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera, all of whom will go down in Yankee history and one day possibly have their numbers retired. They have all had outstanding careers in pinstripes, with each of them playing their entire careers in the Bronx, except for Pettitte, who took a three year vacation to his home ...

New York Yankees: My First Trip to Yankee Stadium

After I finished my work in the office, I hopped on a New York City subway train and headed N orth towards the Bronx. I was on my way to my first ever New York Yankees game. I am a recent college graduate who recently relocated to the Big Apple to begin my career. As a die-hard Red Sox fan, originally from Boston, I never really saw the need to drive down to the city to catch a game. However, now that I have become a huge fan ...
