Slump Busters: Mark Teixeira and A-Rod Heating Up for the New York Yankees

It has been a sub par year for several Yankees in 2010 so far, but two major weapons for the Bronx Bombers are starting to return to form. Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira have had a fantastic past couple of weeks and are showing glimpses of their former selves. A-Rod had been driving in runs, but his power numbers were way down and it looked as if he might never regain his power stroke. However, ever since that road trip to Arizona and L.A. he has proved the doubters wrong. After a monster night ...

MLB Trade Rumors: Cliff Lee To the Yankees if Price is Right

The Twins, Mets, Rangers, Phillies, Tigers, and Rays have all been rumored to be interested in trading for Mariners’ pitcher Cliff Lee in recent weeks. Lee has also gained interest from the Yankees—even though they have a rotation that goes five deep. Still, the Yankees want Lee. They really do, but right now, there isn’t a huge need for him  to join the Yankees' rotation. Also, General Manager Brian Cashman doesn’t like to double—dip by trading away prospects for a player who is just going to become a free agent ...

New York Yankees Notes: Grand Slams, Mariano Rivera, Robinson Cano and More

If 2009 was the year of the walk-off then 2010 is the year of the grand slam. Alex Rodriguez belted one last night that put the Yankees ahead for good as they went on to win 6-1 behind a strong performance by CC Sabathia . Here are some notes: A-Rod’s grand slam was the 21st of his career tying him with Manny Ramirez for second place all-time to Lou Gehrig who has 23. The slam was also the Yankees ninth as a team this year, the all-time mark is 10 set back ...

MLB: The Home Run Derby’s 10 Greatest Performances of All-Time

Twenty-five years ago, Dave Parker was the first Home Run Derby champion, belting six home runs to defeat a field that included Jim Rice and future Hall of Famers Eddie Murray, Carlton Fisk, Cal Ripken Jr., and Ryne Sandberg at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Since 1985, the Home Run Derby has provided some of the greatest moments in baseball history. If I write about all of them now, you will not have anything to read about. Everyone has their favorite moment, or at least their favorite home run derby ...

Yankees-Athletics: Alex Rodriguez and C.C. Sabathia Lead New York Past Oakland

Alex Rodriguez provided most of the offense and CC Sabathia took care of the Oakland offense Monday night. Rodriguez homered twice and drove in five, while Sabathia allowed one run in 7.2 innings as New York defeated Oakland, 6-1, at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. New York won their fourth straight and guaranteed their fifth consecutive series win in Oakland. The Athletics, who are 1-4 against the Yankees this season, are only batting .172 (25-145) against New York pitching this season. Rodriguez’s first home run of the evening occurred in New York’s five-run ...

Temporary Roster Fixes For the New York Yankees

The Yankees have been forced to shuffle around their roster due to injuries this season. Their bullpen and designated hitter spot in their lineup.  Players like Al Aceves, Sergio Mitre, Nick Johnson and Marcus Thames, who, while not bona fide stars, all do play a particular role on the 2010 Yankees. The Yankees have had to make do with parts from other team's scrap heap as well as from their own farm system. Players like Kevin Russo, Chad Huffman, Colin Curtis and Chad Gaudin have all come in some capacity to fill ...

MLB Trade Rumors: Will The New York Yankees Gamble and Deal For Cliff Lee?

He's currently the most coveted pitcher out on the trade market. They are the best team in baseball trying to defend their championship. The Yankees and Cliff Lee, seems like a trade everyone is expecting or debating about that could, might, or won't happen. But here is the big question: Will the Yankees pull the trigger and make a deal with the Mariners to get Lee? As of right now, the Yankees don't have room or a spot for another starter. CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettitte, Javier Vazquez, and Phil Hughes are all ...

2010 MLB All Star Rosters: Andy Pettitte Replaces Clay Buchholz for AL

With injuries and with the rule that pitchers who start on the Sunday before the All-Star Game can’t pitch in the game, we are going to see a lot of pitchers being replaced on the roster from now until July 13. The first pitcher to be replaced is Boston Red Sox RHP Clay Buchholz. Buchholz was placed on the 15-day DL yesterday and will not be able to pitch in the game. He will be replaced by the New York Yankees’ LHP Andy Pettitte. When I made my American League All-Star team, ...

Yankees Notes: Alfredo Aceves, Romulo Sanchez and Dallas Braden

The Yankees beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1 last night, behind a strong performance by starter Javier Vazquez, who improved his record to 7-7 and finally got his ERA under five, to 4.81. The offense came from a Curtis Granderson triple and a Mark Teixeira solo-shot. Here are some notes: The Yankees have improved to 20 games over .500. They have the best record in baseball at 51-31. Since May 12, Vazquez is 6-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 11 appearances. Alfredo Aceves suffered another setback yesterday, while throwing a bullpen session. He’s headed ...

MLB Trade Deadline: The 10 Biggest Pennant-Changing Deals of the 2000s

The trade deadline can be a defining moment during the season. The trade deadline allows teams that buy to transform themselves from a contender into World Series champions, while the teams that sell start to look towards the future. Not every deal that has been made in recent memory has worked out (see July 31, 2004: Mets trade Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano), but there are plenty of other deals that have. As we wait anxiously for the 2010 trade deadline, hoping our favorite team adds that special player who will ...
