The Yankees were losing 2-1 going into the 8th inning against the Indians last night, but a two-run home run by Curtis Granderson put the Yankees up 3-2 for good.
Here are some notes:
Granderson—or G-Unit—has been red hot lately. Over the last 14 games he has a .346 average and a .951 OPS. He also has three homers in the last two days.
Javier Vazquez notched another victory. He is 6-2 with a 3.05 ERA since June 1st.
In the 8th inning Joe Girardi called on David Robertson , not Joba Chamberlain ...
Alex Rodriguez is on the threshold of joining an elite club.
Currently sitting at 599 homers, A-Rod will become one of only seven major league players to ever reach the 600 mark.
At only 34 years old, Rodriguez has a chance to surpass Barry Bonds for the all-time home run lead.
Six of the top 10 sluggers of all-time played for an average of 22 seasons.
In order for Rodriguez, currently in his 17th season, to eclipse Bonds, he will have to average nearly 30 home runs per season over the next ...
The day was April 14, 2010, the second home game of the season.
The Yankees were the reigning 2009 World Series champions, making New York glow with pride. Yankee fans' subdued looks of unfamiliarity from 2009 were replaced with smiles because our new house felt like a home.
At least that is how I felt that Wednesday afternoon, until the game started.
The Yankees were hosts to the Los Angeles Angels, so as the home team took the field my cheers were silenced with booing, cursing as if the season were over ...
It has been reported that New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman has been shopping around relief pitcher Chan Ho Park.
My question is, what teams are interested in Park, and what does he bring to a team?
The 37-year-old right-handed pitcher doesn’t offer much promise to any team he joins. This season, in 32 innings pitched, Park has given up seven home runs, 37 hits, walked nine, and, surprisingly, struck out 26.
Park’s 5.57 ERA is not ideal, but what makes Yankee fans cringe is the fact ...
By Larry Barnes | Yankees 'n More It might sound strange to say this on a night when Mariano Rivera just successfully closed out a 3-2 win in a shutout 9th inning on the road for his 21st save in 23 chances, but... I'm concerned about Mariano Rivera. For the first time in God only knows how long, Mo was out there tonight without his cutter. He got by with basically sinkers (2-seamer) and 4-seam fastballs. He had good velocity (94 on some of the 4-seamers), but his command wasn't nearly ...
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN , the Yankees have been shopping reliever Chan Ho Park.
Don’t expect any miracles.
Of course the Yankees are shopping Park, he’s been terrible this season. Combine that with a thin free agent market for relievers and Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman thinks he’ll be able to get something for him.
It’s better to try this than to simply designate him for assignment, but the Yankees probably won’t get much in return. Trading him would only ensure getting rid of his salary.
Park is 37 years ...
NOTE: team and player statistics updated through Sunday morning, July 4 11:00 AM CT 1. New York Yankees (62-35) Two pitchers who deserve to be in the AL Cy Young Award conversation (Andy Pettitte and C.C. Sabathia) and arguably the league’s best offense. Things are looking pretty good in the Bronx. 2. Tampa Bay Rays (59-38) The Rays should start getting comfortable in the second-place seat in the AL East. They could be in that seat for a while. 3. San Diego Padres ...
According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated , the Baltimore Orioles owner, Peter Angelos, doesn’t want his team to make trades with the Yankees. This means that the Yankees will not be able to land IF Ty Wigginton.
This is not exactly a surprise. The Yankees have been attached to Wigginton in rumors for almost all season now, but those talks have never gotten anywhere at all and now we know why.
It has been this way for a while. In the 90′s there was a very hot rivalry and it ...
According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com , the Blue Jays intend to get a good return for reliever Scott Downs and will ask for one of each interested club’s top prospects in return.
Here is more from Speier:
"The Jays can aim high on Downs in part because he likely will be a Type A free agent following this season, meaning that he could net two draft picks should he reject an arbitration offer and sign elsewhere in free agency, just as was the case with the Sox ...
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN , the Royals don’t seem like they are going to part with their closer, Joakim Soria , and they have even turned down an offer by the Yankees that included their top prospect, catcher Jesus Montero .
Here’s more from Stark:
"Lots of Zack Greinke and Joakim Soria rumors flying in Kansas City. But teams we’ve surveyed say they see no sign that either is going anywhere. The Yankees just made another run at Soria, as first reported by SI.com —even dangling Jesus ...
