Yankees Have Issues; Let’s Not Panic Yet

The team with the best record in baseball has some major issues as the calendar approaches September. The Yankees remain atop the American League East, leading the Rays by one game. They do, however, have some issues and I’ve noticed many fans becoming concerned. While they have a right and reasons to be concerned, it’s not quite time to panic just yet. It’s not one area that causes concern either. It's multiple areas. Starting pitching has been up and down of late. Ace CC Sabathia has ...

Yankees Notes: A-Rod, Hughes, Aceves, and Ticket Prices

The Yankees are taking on the Seattle Mariners this weekend and they start with a showdown between A.J. Burnett and King Felix Hernandez at the stadium tonight. Here are some notes: Alex Rodriguez took fielding practice this afternoon, but he isn’t expected to be back in the lineup at third base tonight. If after BP his calf feels OK he could DH. The Yankees are almost ready to unveil their plans for limiting Phil Hughes‘ innings. Right now he’s on track for about 188 innings, but the Yankees ...

Darryl’s New Restaurant: A Review of Strawberry’s

As I mentioned in the post earlier, I got home pretty late on Wednesday night. I got home rather late because I made the rare weekday visit to Queens, NY to hang out with some friends. The reason for the pilgrimage into Queens was to revisit our childhood by seeing "The Expendables," but to also eat at Darryl Strawberry’s new restaurant, conveniently called Strawberry’s. Before I get to a review of Strawberry’s, let me just tell you "The Expendables" was terrible. There was no plot and the fight scenes were poorly constructed. ...

Yankees Scouting Report: Manny Banuelos

Frankie Piliere is a former MLB scout and is currently a writer for AOL FanHouse. He had a chance to watch the Yankees top pitching prospect LHP Manny Banuelos this week and came away very impressed. Here is a link to his article and here is a quick recap of what he had to say: Physical description Banuelos has added bulk to what was once considered a smallish frame. He’s athletic which helps him repeat his delivery well. He is right where he needs to be physically. Mechanics Banuelos has “well-above-average command” thanks to “very ...

Roger Clemens Indictment Points to Ongoing Misdirection of Government

The great Roman orator and senator Cicero famously noted in 44 BC that those who wish to function in government and watch over the affairs of the public should remember two things. 1) to keep the best interests of the people so clearly in view that, whatever their own interests, those of the people will guide their conduct 2) to care for the well being of the whole body politic, and not that of any one party, especially not one which is prepared to betray the interests of the state ...

The Real Truth: Roger Clemens Not Guilty?

Geraldo Rivera appeared on the O'Reilly Show yesterday comparing Roger Clemens attorney with the attorney for Mark McGwire. Geraldo's position was that Rusty Hardin, Clemens' attorney, should be disbarred for allowing his client to testify. He said that Hardin is responsible for Clemens' federal indictment yesterday for allegedly lying to Congress. Geraldo's position, like so many others including that of Major League Baseball, is that Clemens lied because he used steroids while winning some or all of his record-breaking seven Cy Young Awards as one of baseball's two best pitchers. The period ...

Lance Berkman Heads To DL, Prospect Eduardo Nunez Gets Chance at Last

New York Yankees prospect shortstop Eduardo Nunez has been called up to the big leagues after first baseman Lance Berkman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle. Berkman has wanted to play, but he understands the move as part of the game. Nunez, 23, has been hitting .289 and stole 23 bases in 118 games for the Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. He has only been caught five times trying to steal. Nunez made his Major League debut when he replaced Derek Jeter at shortstop in the seventh ...

On Road To Repeat: Eight Things Yankees Must Do to Win The AL East

In sports or life, as an individual or as a team once you become a champion is beyond satisfying. After many failures through dedication and hard work the sense of relief must be surreal. Getting back there again surely loses it’s sense of urgency, that is why repeating is harder than becoming one in the first place. The Yankees are the most winning franchise in all of sports. No other teams can really compete financially, historically, or geographically. The Yankees popularity spans worldwide, and MLB stadiums everywhere fill-up if they’re in ...

2011 Free Agents: Why Carl Crawford to the Yankees Is a Bad Idea

As the baseball world slowly starts to enter September, one must think of the 2011 free agency.Huge names enter this year's offseason including Cliff Lee, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Derek Jeter (we all know where's he's going), and All-Star Outfielder, Carl Crawford.Carl Crawford can make any team better, literally. He has so much talent that he currently is the best "five-tool" player in baseball. We all know the Yankees will sign one big name superstar. But I hope it's NOT Carl Crawford. What?! As an avid Yankee fan, I'l explain why he's ...

Roger Clemens and the 10 Greatest Players Not Bound for Cooperstown

Oh, Roger.Love him or hate him, the news that Roger Clemens is being (it is hard to even type it out) indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs is down-right depressing. There was a time when the baseball viewing public was being forced to ask themselves:"Could Roger Clemens be ready to surpass Walter Johnson as the greatest pitcher of all time?"As we watch Roger's reputation and celebrity get flushed down the toilet, perhaps the biggest question surrounding Roger ...
