Yankee Stadium: The Place That Converts Yankee Watchers Into Fans

On Sunday, I made my second journey to the new Yankee Stadium with my fiance, Kate, and watched the New York Yankees lose, 7-3, to the Toronto Blue Jays. For the second time in two years, Kate and I enjoyed ourselves at one of my new favorite places on earth. Officially, I am not a Yankee's fan but the more I watch the AL East's first-place team and the more I visit Yankee Stadium, the more I like them. The reasons have nothing to do with their HUGE payroll or because they win ...

New York Yankees Have Chance To Pad AL East Lead Before Big Series in Tampa

At the end of Sunday’s play, the New York Yankees have a 2.5 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yanks and the Rays are most definitely going to the playoffs; the only question is which team wins the American League East. The two teams play each other for seven epic games in the next two weeks. However, the Yankees have a chance to pad their lead before they arrive in St. Petersburg for three games. This week, the Yankees wrap up their ten-game home stand in which they are ...

New York Yankees Need To Get Rid of Joba Chamberlain at Least By Next Season

New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain has been one of the most overrated prospects over the past couple of years. He all made us say "wow" when he came out of nowhere in the 2007 season, pitching the year with a ridiculous ERA of 0.38. Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman didn't know what to do with him except to keep his innings limit.  In 2008, Joba pitched 100.1 innings with an impressive ERA of 2.60. It seemed like Chamberlain is heading for a great career as a starter, until he failed at that ...

Josh Hamilton Out: What Does That Mean for the Other AL MVP Canidates?

Yesterday, Josh Hamilton ran into a wall chasing down a fly ball.  Today, it was confirmed that he would be out indefinitely. So what does that mean for the other MVP hopefuls like Robinson Cano, Miguel Cabrera, and possibly even CC Sabathia? Hamilton was the clear MVP favorite, hitting .361 with 31 home runs and 97 RBI.  Still only in early September, it wasn't too hard to imagine a 40 homer and 110 RBI season for Hamilton.  It's been a tough week physically for Josh.  Earlier this week, he was ...

Alex Rodriguez Returns, New York Yankees’ Winning Streak Comes to an End

The Yankees got Alex Rodriguez back today, but his 2-for-5 day wasn’t enough to overcome Phil Hughes' poor start as the Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-3, ending their winning streak at eight games. Here are some highlights: Hughes allowed three home runs for the second time this season (last time was July 4, also against Toronto). With an 0-for-4 day, Derek Jeter is now batting .154 over his last 20 games. Nick Swisher, day-to-day with a knee injury, pinch hit and went 0-for-1. Austin Kearns, ...

Stats: Curtis Granderson Since the Fix

The Yankees traded Austin Jackson this offseason because despite the fact that they liked him, they liked Curtis Granderson more. However, through most of the season, Granderson was either injured or a disappointment or both. While Granderson was struggling, Jackson was thriving in Detroit. His BABIP might have been sky high, suggesting that he was overachieving, and he might have been showing very little power, but he was still hitting north of .300 while providing exceptional speed and defense. It made the Yankees and general manager Brian Cashman look bad. So ...

Yankees Notes: A-Rod, Kearns, Golson, Vazquez, and the Lineup

The Yankees have Phil Hughes on the mound this afternoon as they go for the sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays, and their ninth consecutive victory overall. Here are some notes: Alex Rodriguez will be activated this afternoon. He will play third and hit cleanup. Marcus Thames got the start in right field yesterday when Nick Swisher was scratched, and because Austin Kearns couldn’t play due to a minor thumb injury. He is day-to-day. Swisher and Kearns might be day-to-day, but they aren’t playing this afternoon. On ...

A-Rod ‘Feels Good’ After Taking Swings, Eyes Return

Starting pitcher Andy Pettitte and third baseman Alex Rodriguez, both attempting to return from injuries, matched up between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. in a simulated game. Rodriguez faced Pettitte six times in a three-inning simulated game, stringing together a couple of hits. He struck out once, grounded out twice, and popped out in his remaining at-bats. Rodriguez said after the simulated game that he “felt good.” He added that his main concern was that he did not hit one ball back up the middle. Rodriguez also ran out of the batter’s box in ...

Let the Good Times Roll: Yankees Win Eighth Straight, Hottest Team in the Majors

The Yankees won their eighth consecutive game today against the Toronto Blue Jays, and are the hottest team in baseball as the stretch run begins. Javy Vazquez was less than stellar in his return to the starting rotation today, giving up five runs in four and two thirds innings pitched, the Blue Jays also slugged two home runs. The bullpen came in and bridged the gap to Mariano Rivera, and as usual, the sandman finished it off. Mo also lowered his ERA to 1.06, which would be a career low if it ...

Yankees Win Their 8th in Row

The Yankees have won their 8th game in a row, overcoming a poor performance from Javier Vazquez, who was pulled in the 5th inning, to beat the Blue Jays 7-5. Here is a quick recap: Vazquez did not look as sharp as he had in his two previous bullpen appearances, only managing to hit 89 mph on the gun. Marcus Thames started in right field, for the first time in a long time, in place of Nick Swisher, who was a pregame scratch. Thames came through with the game ...
