Austin Romine: Is He the New York Yankees Future Behind the Plate?

With the Trenton Thunder's 8-1 win Friday night in New Hampshire, the Yankees Double-A affiliate advanced to the Eastern League finals for the third time in the last four seasons. With absolutely stunning pitching, the Thunder's starters and relievers held the Fisher Cats to ONE run in 30 innings over the three games. Some of that credit has to go to the catcher for all three of those games, 21 year old Austin Romine. During the series, Romine caught a potential future ace in Dellin Betances, a potential Hall of Famer in Andy ...

New York Yankees Have Lost Six of Last Seven

The Yankees were swept today by the Texas Rangers and now have lost six of their last seven games as Cliff Lee was brilliant tonight holding them to one run on two hits over eight innings. Dustin Moseley was impressive, but ultimately not good enough as he allowed four runs over 6.2 innings as the Yankees lost 4-1. Here are some highlights: Probably the biggest positive to come out of this game was Jonathan Albaladejo who pitched 1.1 innings and didn’t allow a run. His ERA this season is ...

New York Yankees Playoff Roster Discussion

The question of whether or not the Yankees will win the American League Eastern Division looms rather large, but at this point with the Red Sox sitting nine games behind the Yankees in the Wild Card standings things look pretty good for their playoff chances. Over the past two days, Chad Gaudin has been playing a large part in Yankee losses and it has gotten me thinking of his chances of even making the playoff roster. He’s been with the team since they reacquired him in the middle of May, ...

Brett Gardner To Have MRI, ‘Should Be Fine’

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner will have an MRI performed on his right wrist due to what has become an ongoing problem. Gardner has had trouble with his wrist since June 27, when he was hit by a pitch during the Yankees interleague series with the Dodgers.  Gardner says that he hasn't "felt like it was 100 percent," and says that, although it has not hindered his ability to bat, the nagging pain is "definitely not helping matters." Gardner, who had six hits in his last 27 at-bats, was pinch-hit for by Austin Kearns ...

New York Yankees Notes: Pettitte, Miranda, Russo, Posada, Gardner

The Yankees have dropped two in a row in walk-off style against the Texas Rangers and things won’t get any easier today as they face Cliff Lee. Making things worse, the Tampa Bay Rays are within striking distance, just a half-game back, of first place. So there is a lot on the line this afternoon. Here are some notes: In Lee’s last start against the Yankees he pitched 6.1 innings and gave up 4 earned runs. Andy Pettitte will throw another rehab start on Tuesday and if everything goes well ...

Joe Girardi’s Crucial Mathematical Error Costs Yankees Game

Picture this: a game lasts over four hours, uses 41 players, features 374 pitches, has two blown saves, and ends in a walk-off hit by pitch—by Mariano Rivera. Welcome to Yankees-Rangers, September 11 (and part of 12), 2010 It was a peculiar game to say the least, and it was no surprise that such an odd game was perpetuated by a series of unorthodox managerial moves. This game featured moves as simple as a pinch hitter, to as questionable as a 3-0 sac bunt. Back up. A 3-0 sac bunt? ...

Yankees Lose To Rangers Again on Yet Another Walk-Off

This weekend’s series is a possible playoff preview and that could be bad news for the Yankees as it appears the Texas Rangers have their number lately after they picked up their second walk-off win in a row. This time the Rangers won the game after Ian Kinsler tied it in the bottom of the 9th with an RBI double and then Texas won the game when Mariano Rivera hit Jeff Francoeur with a pitch while the bases were loaded. The final score was 7-6. Here are some ...

Andy Pettitte To Throw One More Rehab Start, Eyes Return in a Week

Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte is inching closer to his return. If all goes according to plan, he could return right before a key series against the Rays in New York, exactly one month after going on the disabled list with an injured groin. Pettitte threw a scoreless four innings in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Trenton on Thursday. The outing was pain free, a big step in the right direction. If any of the Yankees' minor league teams are still playing on Tuesday, the Yankees will likely send him down ...

Wish We Were There: Don Larsen’s Perfect Game

One of the greatest moments in Yankee history occurred on October 8, 1956.  In fact, it is the only such accomplishment of its kind.  Don Larsen threw the only postseason no-hitter and perfect game in Major League Baseball history.  It was done in Game 5 of the World Series. To throw a perfect game is a monumental task itself.  No batter can reach base, no walks, no hits, no errors, no HBP.  It's 27 up, 27 down.  In the 135 years of professional baseball, there have only been 20 perfect games. ...

Another Yankees’ Game Ends in a Walk-Off, This Time They’re on the Wrong End

Another Yankee game ended in a walk-off, but unfortunately it wasn’t the Yankees doing the walking as they blew a 4-1 lead to lose to the Rangers 6-5 in 13 innings last night in Texas. Here are some highlights: The Yankees really made Texas starter C.J. Wilson work has he needed 76 pitches to get through 3 innings. He allowed 4 earned runs. The Yankees then scored 1 run off of reliever Matt Harrison in the 6th, but failed to score another run off a Texas reliever through 7 innings (9 ...
