Cliff Lee, if one believes what one reads, is apparently capable of walking on water, leaping tall buildings in a single bound and his fastball can outrun a speeding locomotive.
Apparently, that is not all he is capable of. He is so good that many believe that he can, by himself, defeat the New York Yankees in the upcoming ALCS.
Really?
We must all tune into this series, even if we are not fans of either team or baseball in general, because apparently history will be made as one man will win the entire ...
Now that the ALCS matchup has been determined after the Texas Rangers sent the Tampa Bay Rays packing with a 5-1 victory last night in St. Petersburg, the Yankees have a decision to make. During the ALDS against Minnesota, a five-game series, the Yankees were able to go with a three-man pitching rotation of CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte and Phil Hughes.
In a seven-game ALCS, the Yankees will have to go with a four-man rotation. If they don't, they'd have to start Sabathia, Pettitte and Hughes on short rest. For Sabathia, ...
The Yankees made quick work of the Twins in the ALDS. In fact, they were so quick in dispatching the Twins that they didn’t get a chance to use Joba Chamberlain at all.
Some people are making a big deal about this because they say it is proof that the Yankees have lost confidence in Joba. But according to pitching coach Dave Eiland, it had more to do with matchups than confidence.

Asked if manager Joe Girardi had more trust in Kerry Wood and David Robertson than Joba Chamberlain, ...
So the Rangers finally finished off the Rays last night so the Yankees will fly over to Texas to prepare for the ALCS that will start on Friday.
Here are some notes:
Just a reminder, A.J. Burnett, Javier Vazquez and Chad Gaudin will all participate in a simulated game today.
The Yankees are hoping that Burnett can build up some confidence more than anything else today.
Yankees Brian Cashman was happy that the Rangers/Rays series went five games because now Cliff Lee won’t pitch until Game 3 and 7 if ...
Via the NY Post:
In late September, Mr. October stopped by Phil Hughes‘ locker for a chat. Hughes was preparing for a Sept. 26 start against the Red Sox, and the Yankees’ wild card lead was dwindling because of a four-game losing streak.
Originally scheduled to pitch Wednesday, the Yankees pushed Hughes up to Sunday and bumped Dustin Moseley.
“He told me to relax. I was coming off some starts that were forgettable,” Hughes said. “He told me to do what I usually do. I took a lot from that. I ...
The moment the Texas Rangers' Cliff Lee hurled his last strike Tuesday night; he not only killed the Tampa Bay Rays' postseason dreams, but also gave the New York Yankees an official ALCS opponent for Game One on Friday night.
The Yankees will fly down to Texas to face the Rangers in the seven-game ALCS series, which for one team will lead to the World Series.
In all honesty, predictions were betting the Rays would beat the Rangers in the ALDS, but in a five-game series, there is no room to stumble.
The ...
If anyone was surprised at Cliff Lee’s performance in today’s ALDS conclusion, they haven't watched enough baseball to call themselves fans.
If this postseason has made one thing perfectly evident, it is that a true ace in the postseason is worth many times his weight in gold. What’s more astonishing is how accurately one may predict the outcome of a series, especially a short series like the divisional round, simply by assessing the caliber of a team’s ace.
In 2010, the four consensus best ace pitchers were: Roy Halladay, Tim Lincecum, Lee ...
The regular season is over and it is that time for the end of the season awards. Much like the newspapers have the BBWAA that votes on the end of the year awards that everyone makes a big deal about, us bloggers have the Baseball Bloggers Alliance that votes on our own version of the awards.
The BBA is comprised of nearly 300 baseball blogs and will shortly announce the winners, but first the votes must be cast. As chapter president of the Yankees chapter, I have collected and will announce ...
With one game to go to decide who the New York Yankees will play in the American League Championship Series, it's time to jump ahead a little bit and do some assumption work.Assuming the Phillies get past the Giants for the NLCS title and the Yankees win the ALCS, how would the Phillies and Yankees match up in the 2010 World Series? Both these teams having pitching and they certainly have power on offense. But what sets these two teams apart?Let's dive into a possible World Series matchup and take a ...
Sorry for the lack of updates, but I’ve got enough now to hold you over for a while. The Yankees haven’t announced any roster changes yet. They are waiting until October 12th's Rays-Rangers game to find out whom they are playing before they do that. They did play a simulated game today to stay sharp so I’ll have updates on that and more. Here we go.
Simulated game notes:
The Yankees had a simulated game today to stay fresh. Dustin Moseley and Sergio Mitre pitched the equivalent of two innings.
