When Derek Jeter announced his impending retirement during a February press conference, the end of a brilliant career began for the legendary New York Yankees shortstop. After an injury-plagued 2013, predicting major success for Jeter in 2014 was a fool's errand. As the farewell campaign rolls on, it has become abundantly clear that Jeter made the correct decision in choosing to retire sooner rather than later. As his age 40 season becomes more of a league-wide goodbye than an All-Star caliber season, production is becoming an issue for one of the ...
In the fourth inning of the New York Yankees’ 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night, Masahiro Tanaka struck out Endy Chavez with a wicked splitter. One of the others? Hideo Nomo.
That’s significant because Nomo, another much-hyped Japanese import, crossed the Pacific with big expectations trailing him. And like Nomo, Tanaka has surpassed the hype.
Tanaka reached another important milestone in leading the Yankees ...

When the 2008 season began, the New York Yankees were thought to have baseball's best and rarest commodity: young and ascending starting pitching. At the time, the trio of Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain represented 60 percent of future dominant rotations in the Bronx.
More than six years later, that dream is long gone. Success for the Kennedy-Hughes-Chamberlain trio, however, has finally all come together at the same time. With the specter of the New York spotlight out of the equation, the former Yankee farmhands are succeeding at levels ...
The New York Yankees rotation isn't in good shape thanks to injuries to Ivan Nova, CC Sabathia and Michael Pineda, but there could be help on the way come the trading deadline.
The Bronx Bombers are notorious for making moves midseason to improve their chances at reaching the postseason. Hal Steinbrenner has already alluded to the fact his team will be active yet again at the deadline, via Ken Davidoff of the New York Post:
"[We’re] always willing to look at options come July. Come the trade deadline," he said.
Now that we know ...
Many words tumble through the brain when trying to describe the sight of two grown men wearing skin-tight cat-face apparel.
"Insane," "dubious" and "oh" all come to mind, but there is one word that stands high above the rest: "heroes."
This is the only fitting description of two Kansas City Royals fans who attended Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Strapped into taut, cat-face wrestling singlets, the two men held signs thanking Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who will retire at the end of the 2014 season.

Heading into play on June 7, the Yankees had posted a .577 winning percentage under his watch, captured three American League East division crowns and won a World Series title. When factoring in the ...
