Yankees Release Randy Winn

Jennings of the Journal News is reporting that the Yankees have designated outfielder Randy Winn for assignment to make room on the roster for Curtis Granderson who is returning from a groin injury.

“I was ready. I was prepared. … I played terrible,” Winn said after hearing he’d been cut. “That’s the bottom line.”

The Yankees signed Winn to a one-year $1.1 million contract to be an outfielder off the bench. His contract included performance bonus that could have escalated the deal to $2 million, but he didn’t reach any of them. He played in 29 games for the Yankees.
