New York Yankees: Brian Cashman Brings Back Old Bullpen Piece for Stretch Run

past Saturday, the New York Yankees signed the recently released Scott Proctor to a minor league contract with an assignment to their Triple-A affiliate.

Proctor, who was released by the Braves on August 10th, was one of Joe Torre's favorite bullpen arms from 2004-2007.

In 2006, his best season to date, Proctor pitched in a league-leading 83 games, totaling 102.1 innings pitched. He racked up 89 strikeouts and posted a 3.52 ERA.

In 31 games this season for the Braves, Proctor has struggled. He has recorded more walks (19) than strikeouts (18) in 29.1 innings with a 6.44 ERA.

Proctor may not prove to be an impact pitcher for the Yankees down the stretch, but he could become a valuable arm. Rafael Soriano and David Robertson ...
