MLB Winter Meetings 2011: Yankees Not the “Mystery Team” for Albert Pujols

(10:13 a.m.): According to Tim Brown of Yahoo, the Los Angeles Angels will sign first baseman Albert Pujols to a 10-year deal worth around $250 million to $260 million.

Looks like the Angels were the team after all and landed their guy.

Ah, the "mystery team."

A phrase in free agent negotiations that can either spoof an agent or a team into doing wild and very crazy things in regards to a contract.

Last year, the Yankees and Rangers dealt with that when they were negotiating with pitcher Cliff Lee and a mystery team was involved with them.

And it turned out the Phillies were that team to swoop in and land Lee.
