Martin had an absolutely abysmal first half.
Through the season's first 68 games, Martin has compiled a line of .179/.300/.348 with eight home runs and 21 RBI. His .300 on-base percentage is astounding when you consider his minuscule batting average, but that's really the only positive you can take from Martin's offense in the first half.
Even with his lack of production at the plate, Martin has been a contributor to the New York Yankees and their climb from one of the season's early disappointments to having the best record in the majors.
What he offers behind the plate on defense and while controlling the pitching staff is something that is hard to put a value on.
