A.J. Burnett Needs To Ride the Pine If Yankees Hope To Repeat

years ago the Yankees spent $82.5 million to acquire the talents of Allen James Burnett to fill the secondary spot in their rotation behind that of ace C.C Sabathia. The acquisition was a risky one mostly due to two factors; Burnett’s frequent visits to the disabled list during his career, and his inability to live up to the talent that was evident he possessed.

On paper, the rotation of Sabathia, Burnett, Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes, and Javy Vasquez looked formidable, but World Series are won on the field, not on paper.

Most figured that if Burnett could stay healthy he would likely be able to contribute. He got the healthy part right, but as far as contributing? Not so much.
